My story,
True to form, in 2013 I took what was seen then as a slightly insane choice to follow a vegan lifestyle.
Whilst I batted off questions about the magical protein my body was pulling out of a hat, and whether animals wanted to share their dinner with me, over the years I developed a somewhat stubborn habit of trying to make vegan food look healthy and delicious, because well, nobody thought it could be.
Fast track to 2018 and as the universe would have it, 2 slightly kooky people put their heads together and thought up the seeds of Leicester Vegan Food Guide, which unknown to us at the time, would grow into My Vegan Food Guide.
What was once a hunt for vegan food of my own became a hunt on behalf of the other people searching out vegan food in Leicester. I wasn’t about to let them too settle for chips and salad! I had a new sense of purpose and my once timid dietary requests became a confidently direct question- “What vegan options do you have?”.
Before long Devan was telling me about places with vegan options. (I think he’s got a loyal flock of messenger pigeons). Soon we were hearing of places in other cities. We took the leap and found vegans further afield who were equally passionate about giving vegan food the podium it deserves.
Once again the universe intervened and I was offered a job in Leeds, so took the decision to hand over my beloved Leicester page to someone who I had been admiring at the time, should she accept the offer! Joined in vegan unity I entrusted our seedling city, and with my new home a new location sprouted.
Now with 15 cities onboard we have decided to wind it back in and put more focus on quality. We’re in the process of revamping our website, becoming more locally engaged and forming partnerships. Whilst we would love to tantalise you with the details, we would much rather show you, so in our future posts we’ll be updating you with the here and now!
