Indigo Restaurant was created over 20 years ago with a unique vision, something that had never been heard of in those days. Growing up in a vegetarian family, my father wanted to start a pure vegetarian restaurant in a beautiful Pub building, a place we walked past everyday for years. Despite lots of people thinking that such a concept would never work, he believed deeply in his vision and worked hard with our family to create a place that is now loved by so many.
Our father, Mr Jagdish Ghelani, was the first to start an Indian Vegetarian Restaurant in a pub in those days, and that too, not your standard curry house. The plan was to bring popular Mumbai street food dishes such as bhel, paani puri, dhosa and pau bhaji to a place with a homely feel that was welcoming to the whole family. In those times, we were the first restaurant in Leicester to serve the Indo-chinese cuisine, which has now become a household favourite. This includes the extremely popular Chilli Paneer & Hakka Noodles as well as Chilli Mushrooms and Indigo Rice.
Our father, an entrepreneur and visionary, is also a passionate chef and food innovator and had created many dishes such as spice of India pizza that are so unique that customers come from miles away to enjoy these mouthwatering items.
Our team of expert chefs and passionate waitering staff believe in ensuring all guests have an excellent experience no matter the occasion. Indigo Family is built on the value of ‘Athithi Devo Bhava’ (treat your guest as your God). We aim to serve each guest with reverence and respect, and value each one that steps into the building. It epitomises the feeling of friendliness and kindness in the Indian people, where everyone is welcome.
