Hi, I’m Shahima- owner, founder, creator, whatever you wanna call it, of ShamsKebabs! Unfortunately my story isn’t as exciting as most people’s- I didn’t wake up one day suddenly realising my passion for food and then going on to share that love with you wonderful people. Far from it actually!
I moved to Leicester after getting married and would sometimes make kebabs when we had bbqs at home. My in laws and husband would always tell me how amazing the kebabs were and that I should in fact start selling them but I always brushed it off thinking they’re family now, they have to say nice things about my food! Fast forward three years later and we’re in the middle of a pandemic. Literally sitting in the garden twiddling our thumbs and thinking about what the future holds for us.
One morning I woke up and my husband had the strangest look on his face. I asked him what was running through his beady little mind this time and he said “We should sell your kebabs on the weekend- it’ll give us something to do!” Obviously, I agreed and 6 months later here we are!
We went and bought a few resources- charcoal, foil containers, brown paper bags etc and set up our Instagram page. And then we waited. And we began posting. Lo and behold, a week later I got my first order. We went from making around 30 kebabs a weekend to almost 300 per weekend! We then expanded from just lamb kebabs to chicken kebabs also and added a few more chutneys on to our menu. Still kept it fairly simple so there’s no confusion with what to order and what not to order!
We’ve had a great response from so many amazing people in Leicester and have a few standing orders from our logo customers every weekend! I still can’t believe how many people wish to order from us every weekend and can’t wait to see how we’ll expand in the future!
